career research tools
The Arizona Department of Education has provided the students of Arizona schools with the Arizona Career Information System. This free tool allows students to research careers that would be suitable for their values, interests, and skills. Students are provided the opportunity to take assessments made free to them which are linked to careers. Upon following the link, students are able to look into the careers and gather information such as what they do, skills necessary for the position, education level necessary for the position, recommended high school courses, pay offered for the chosen career, and the job outlook for all the states in the U.S. From there, students are able to look into the majors/degrees that are necessary for the position and are provided with links to schools that offer those majors and degree programs. Students can then research the schools and compare and contract each school. This site also provides over 3,000 scholarships to apply for and more information on financial aid. This site is a student's one-stop-shop for career readiness.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is another source for researching careers. It is similar to AZCIS. This database is provided to us by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This site will provide an overview of the occupation, information about what they do in the profession as well as the work environment, the average pay offered, and the 10 year outlook for the occupation. It also delves into the education skills necessary to obtain that occupation. It provides occupations to consider that are similar to the occupation being researched.
